Comedy Night

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported our Comedy Night in October this year! The comedians were fantastic and overall we raised £4,915.00!!! This will go a long way to help us provide support to those affected by organ donation, spread the word and get people talking.

Black & White Fundraiser Ball

On Saturday 16th November, Sophie Walker held a 'Remembrance and Hope' Black and White Charity Ball in Llansteffan, raising money for 2 very important charities close to her heart; Mind Cymru and Believe Organ Donor Support. Her aim was to raise as much awareness as possible surrounding mental health, particularly suicide amongst young men following the loss of her brother to suicide a year previous, and organ donation, as she herself is waiting for a double organ transplant to save her life.
The night was an absolute success! Fraser Bear was auctioned for £300 and is off for an adventure around the world, including Cambodia and Las Vegas! Overall the event raised £5000!!!

Well done and a huge thank you to Sophie and her family!

Ryan Brett - Fundraiser

He is keen to take part in a local Park Run on the Saturday has asked for volunteers to join him in their Believe t.shirts and run with him!

Any volunteers please email Nikki and put your name forward at believeods@icloud.com

Students for Organ Donation
On 23rd October 2019, Anna-Louise carried out a training session with the Students for Organ Donation at Cardiff University. This is part of the charity's core aims; to educate people about organ donation. The programme trains students to go out into schools and talk to the children about organ donation.

For more information on this programme or if you would be interested in your local school taking part in this, please get in touch at believeods@icloud.com

The British American Project
by Andrea Byrne, Trustee
As a trustee of Believe, it is always a bonus when you can spread the word about the charity. I’m a fellow of a transatlantic leadership organisation called The British American Project. It’s annual conference this year was in Cardiff and I seized the opportunity to take some of the delegates on a site visit to the Transplant Unit. It was fantastic to be able to hear from Anna-Louise about the charity’s work and from fellow trustee and lead transplant surgeon Mike Stephens. We had a thought-provoking session around the opt-out legislation, the importance of talking to your loved ones about your wishes and the work Believe is going to educate people on this, particularly through animation and education. Having the opinions and perspectives not only of those from England who will be moving to opt-out, but also of those from the U.S. who do not have this system at all, made for a really good discussion.

Aaron Gilchrist from South Carolina, whose global company provides the fluids to store the organs also spoke and shed more light on the situation stateside.

Perhaps most importantly of all, Fraser Bear will now be on his travels to all sorts of parts of America and the U.K and those that now know the Believe message will be spreading the word with their furry friends! I know he’s already travelled to Scotland and Dubai!!

Celebrity and Charity Film Award host Sally Phillips also attended the event, and later tweeted this post of herself and Fraser Bear at the airport!

HMRC - Cardiff
In November, Believe were invited to HMRC in Cardiff to do a talk during their Health and Well-being at work week. Following a very successful presentation HMRC raffled a Believe Bear and raised £65.89!  Thank you so much to HMRC for helping us spread the word about organisation and raising money.

You too could raise money for Believe by raffling a Fraser Bear in your work place. If you would be interested in finding out more about this please email believeods@icloud.com

Message from Anna-Louise
At Believe we now look to enter into our 5th year and what a year 2019 has been for both Elizabeth and I personally and for the charity. When 4 years ago Believe started I did not ever dream we would achieve so much in the world of organ donation.
From our animation winning the charity film award of the year, to Believe now hitting our education system in Wales with the students from organ donation in year 7, to the incorporation into our Welsh Baccalaureate for GCSE. It is wonderful that Believe's message continues to resonate - to talk about organ donation.
This year was really humbling too with us partnering the transplant games and meeting so many more inspirational people in our transplant world. For me handing out Fraser Bears to all of the child competitors under 5 and then running the 5k with Fraser's friends in the donor run will never be forgotten.
We said welcome to new trustees, said goodbye to old ones, and looked to continue our partnerships with other charities.
However we must now look to further Believe with our 'support' arm. 'The Fraser Fund' which is so close to my heart, is now focusing on providing support in both areas of mental health wellbeing and educational support.
I wish to thank everyone for the funds that have been raised to date and welcome new ideas to assist in 2020.
So as Elizabeth and I wish you Merry Christmas and a happy new year I simply refer to the words of Fraser bear; “Believe in yourself, believe in the gift of life and together we can make a difference"

Thank you,

Best wishes,
